Designing for Small Spaces: Guest Bath Remodel

LMD recently completed a guest bathroom remodel with some serious size constraints. Expanding the footprint was not feasible, so we worked within the existing floor plan to create a refreshed, more functional design for the space. When designing the new bathroom our team implemented a number of small space design strategies, which are highlighted below, to help make the room feel more bright and open.

Custom Vanity: Instead of using a standard depth vanity cabinet, which would have been too deep, we opted for this white oak sideboard. We love the warmth the natural wood brings to the design and at only 16” deep is saves some serious space!

Wall Mount Faucet: A wall mount faucet is a great choice when space is limited - it frees up counter space and allows for a shallower vanity cabinet.

Floor Tile: Running the floor tile along the shortest direction of a room helps to visually expand the area. We used this concrete look tile, which adds great warmth and texture to the space.

Shower Wall Tile: The hand made quality of the wall tile adds interest to the traditional subway shape, while the light color and semi-matte finish reflect light, which help to brighten the room.

Lighting: We added LED recessed lighting as well as wall sconces at the vanity area. The new lighting is both functional and adds to the refreshed feeling of the bathroom.
